First grade students have been working hard on learning about reflection symmetry. This ties into their first grade unit on butterflies, as well as their science unit. Students also learned about what an "artist statement" is, and wrote a small amount about their experience as an artist when creating their pieces. The exciting part for the students was when they became "part of their art" - students were photographed wearing their masks, then I used the GreenScreen App to merge them with their butterfly wings, flying across a field of flowers. They are in the midst of taking turns reading what they wrote using the app, Tellagami. A small avatar will then "speak their words" while their art is in the background. This is very exciting for first grade students, and supports so many goals for creating, working cooperatively, reading and writing.
