Animation Resources
Animation is a time based art that takes a long time to create. It is rich in problem solving, creativity and makes excellent connections with mathematics and literacy (which your child will see on Pixar in a Box.) These resources are to help students understand some of the most basic ideas in this art form.

DoInk for iPad: http://www.doink.com/
5th grade students have used this a bit in the Art Room. This is a very powerful animation program. It does cost ($6.99) but I believe it is the best hands-on 2D animation app out there.

There are many stop motion apps out there. I used to use Lego Movie Maker as it is free and easy for children to use, however it is not available at this time in the app store. Stop motion teaches persistence, patience and gives a great reward for prolonged hard work - building with legos teaches problem solving, visual/spatial skills and supports mathematical thinking.
You can find some recommendations for stop motion Lego apps here: https://www.mykidstime.com/things-to-do/4-nifty-apps-making-best-stop-motion-lego-movies/. By the way, you don't really need Legos to make a stop motion, which you may see in the two PES short stop motion animations linked above.
