5th Grade Animations (school year 2015-2016)
These were created by fifth grade students at Foster using the powerful and challenging app DoInk. Students learned how to create four frames which, when strung together, make their character appear to walk or run. They learned how to use the various tools, techniques, and strategies to accomplish this.
Below is the Snowman Race with a "sound" test. |

After creating their character in a team of two, they worked with another team to learn how to use the path tool, which creates movement across the page. The rate of motion of the individual character animation (e.g., how fast the legs and arms swing) as well as the rate that the character travels across the page were adjusted.

Students learned the importance of precision in animation, as well as the benefits of working as a team. This project uses all of the Artist Habits of Mind, and is a favorite of fifth grade students. There will be more animations uploaded in the future. The students wanted to use sound in their animations, and I am in the process of learning more about using sound in iMovie so that I can facilitate this. Thank you again to the Hingham Education Foundation for funding the 5 iPads and accessories which make projects such as these possible!
